Description
This fabulous looking miniature modern suburban house was built by Rauda Scale Models (RSM) over a decade ago. It is very close to Z scale and would be good used as a building on a Z scale layout or diorama. It can even been used as a home in the far distance on an N scale layout. I removed this house from an Architectural Diorama (pictured in the last couple pictures). The item being offered by this listing is 1 Small Suburban House with chimney on the right side. It has a bay window in the front and simulated 2-car garage door on the right side. It features a front door, side door and many windows.
This particular modern house appears to be made from a resin mold. It is a solid structure that has been articulately painted. The Rauda Scale Models company did an excellent job of making this building. The roofing is gray with specs of white. The Windows and door are meticulously painted as if they were pad-printed. (Forgive me, I do not know the actual methods that RSM used to produce this model.) These are well-built houses and were perfect when I removed them. However, RSM used some of the strongest adhesive I have encountered that chemically bonded the underside of the building so tightly to the diorama ground materials that I had to use a Dremel sanding tool to remove the glue and ground material from the bottom of the building. There may be a few spots near the bottom edges of the building that may have chips of paint off due to the high-speed of the sander. Also, the bottom isn’t exactly flat any more. Nonetheless, the building sits fine and if used on a model, putting ground material, shrubs or trees around the house will easily hide any small imperfections or chipped paint caused by the high-speed sanding.
When I decided to put these buildings up for sale, I checked the Internet for Z-scale homes and found lesser quality built plastic homes for between $50 and $75 each. I believe I’m offering these at a great discount. Purchase 3 or more and make a great little neighborhood or community.
As you can see by the photo of the large architectural diorama, each one of these houses in the diorama had a simulated 2-car garage door with carport and a porch with at least 1 column. RSM accomplished this look by using very thin pieces of Polystyrene. The column is also from a thin tube of Polystyrene. Not all of these little Polystyrene pieces survived the deconstruction of the large diorama, however, while available and supplies last, I will add to your purchase as gifts: 3 trees, 2 simulated cars, 1 carport pad, 1 porch pad. (I was also giving away 1 porch column which is about the diameter of a stick pin or small paperclip but I am out of those so you will have to create your own column). I mention these as gifts because I do not want you to be disappointed if any of these are not included. As the stock levels get low, there will definitely be some houses sold that will not include all of these gifts. If you choose to use the pads and column, you will have to position them and glue them in place as they will not be attached to the building. A few of the buildings for sale may not have the white Polystyrene piece attached to the house that simulates the 2-door garage. I have a few of those and if the house you buy doesn’t have the garage attached, I’ll include the garage piece of Polystyrene separately while supplies last.
I believe these buildings are easily worth $80 each. Some I have listed as auctions starting at less than half of that and others I have for straight out purchase.
There are 2 styles of this particular building (Small Left Chimney House and Small Right Chimney House) and 4 styles of modern houses altogether (includes Large Left Chimney House and Large Right Chimney House). Look at my other items if you’re interested in another style. Also available are some of the parking lot canopies which can be used for many different things and the larger condominium pieces.
Note about the SCALE: I contacted RSM before I bought the diorama to see if they could tell me what the actual scale of the items on the diorama is. They couldn’t remember or tell exactly by the photos that I sent them. However, they were able to provide me with the general height of the largest 4-story building (the condominium) in real life from ground to eave of the roof stating that measurement is typically 40′. I had the seller measure it and the calculated scale of that particular building came up to be about 1:232, which is very close to 1:220 used for Z scale trains.
