The Bachmann 66456 Sound Value Reading SD45 Diesel Engine Locomotive #7601 is a well-crafted N scale model railroad item. The original manufacturer’s suggested retail price for the Bachmann Sound Value Reading SD45 Diesel Locomotive #7601 is $299.99. On the day this item was first posted, there were no N scale SD-45 ‘s available on Bachmann’s retail site.
This DCC sound-equipped EMD SD45 Diesel includes Bachmann’s Sound Value SoundTraxx diesel sound package with prototypical prime mover, 3 air horns, and bells, all in polyphonic 16-bit sound, speed, direction, and lighting control on a DCC layout. It is also compatible with conventional DC-powered railroads.
The special duty prototype SD45 has a 3600-HP prime mover with a V-20 engine and six-axle trucks for superior tractive effort. It embodied the latest and greatest technological advances of its day. Following EMD’s lead in the pursuit of cutting-edge technology, Bachmann proudly offered this N scale sound-equipped locomotive.
The Reading Company used the reporting mark of RDG. However, that mark doesn’t appear on the locomotive. The phrase “Bee Line Serve” appears on both sides of the locomotive. The locomotive is brightly colored with 2 major tones of Yellow and Green. All the lettering is very crisp and easy to read. There are 2 lighted number boards on both the front and the rear of the locomotive. The rear lighting is brighter than the front headlights. The cab’s interior also lights up. There are finely molded details on the shell such as 5 exhaust fans, door hinges, louvers, window covers, windshield wipers, crane hooks, and safety markings. Plastic E-Z Mate Sprung Knuckle Couplers appear on the front and back. 6-Wheel trucks with all-wheel drive and all-wheel-power pickup. The decoder is a dual-mode decoder that provides sound in both DC and DCC mode. Note that in DCC Mode, the throttle must be turned up very high to first start-up the sound and then increased even higher to get the locomotive moving. which is typical for all dual-mode sound decoders.
Bachmann recommends 11.25″ radius curves. The Bachmann 66456 Reading Lines DCCs EMD SD-45 Diesel locomotive runs smooth on Atlas Code 55 tracks. It looks great. Reading Railroad modelers and collectors should appreciate this Bachmann locomotive as it looks to me as if Bachmann did a good job on this SD-45 EMD Diesel Locomotive. 4 of these were purchased. I am keeping the locomotive I used for testing and second one hoping Bachmann will release a CSX shell soon. For now, 2 are up for sale and soon one of the shells will be too in a separate listing.
Coupler Arrangement: 2KC = 2 Knuckle Couplers
