Description

HO scale CON-COR by Rivarossi EMD E-8 Powered A + Dummy A Set #912 NORTHERN PACIFIC Diesel Engine Locomotives.

This Limited-Edition Collector’s set of 2 Northern Pacific E8-A diesel locomotives is very impressive.  The 2 locomotives come in an imitation wood grain covered collector’s box with blue die-cut foam insert.  Originally, it is believed that these 2 locomotives were not operated by the consignor.  When placed for consignment, I examined them and tested them to be sure they ran.  Initially, I ran them for less than 5 minutes.  I have since put about a total of 1 hour of runtime on them by testing them on different layouts and pulling different passenger cars with them in order to present offers that are more attractive than just the locomotives themselves.  I have taken these locomotives to Train Shows in NC and SC.  However, in my opinion, the Northern Pacific railway doesn’t seem to be in high demand in these 2 states, hence the reason they are still up for sale.  The condition of the locomotives is now slightly used with about 1 hour of runtime.  See them running in the linked video(s).

One NP EMD E-8A is Powered and has an operating headlight.  The other NP EMD E8-A is a non-lighted Dummy engine.  Both locos have NMRA standard hornhook couplers and high-flange metals wheels.  Originally, I stated that the paint scheme on this locomotive was beautifully painted and I tried to describe it the way I saw it.  Additional research has uncovered comments by others including one website that refers to the Northern Pacific’s first passenger train paint scheme as “An Uninspiring Paint Scheme.”  I also have discovered that there are 2 names for this particular paint scheme and that the scheme evolves into yet another scheme.  Northern Pacific refers to the paint scheme on these 2 E-8 Diesels locomotives as the “STREAMLINER” paint scheme, while railroad modelers and railfans refer to it as the “Pine Tree” paint scheme.  These locomotives sport the initial paint scheme was applied in 1946.  It is Pullman green with light green window bands and yellow-gold trim.  In 1954, the scheme evolved to a two-tone green with a white stripe, designed by Raymond Loewy and some people refer to that paint scheme as the Loewy paint scheme.  The consignor of this set apparently really loved Northern Pacific.  He consigned a lot of NP passenger trains.  Look through some of my other listings for this pair of locomotives paired with different sets of passenger cars.  And, in my latest attempt to sale this set, I bought 9 Loewy scheme passenger cars that you might wish to pull with this set.  I am also offering the Loewy scheme passenger cars by themselves in case someone wants to pull them with a different locomotive as well.  If you enjoy model painting, you might purchase the combined sets and apply your own upgrade paint job to this set to match the Loewy paint scheme set.

As is, thee 2 locomotives are sporting the STREAMLINER / Pine Tree paint scheme.  The powered unit has some rubber tires on some of the wheels (please see the pictures for these).  Only the rear truck of the powered unit drives that locomotive.  It appears to be a powerful motor based on the way the locomotive operates.  When connected end-to-end, the powered unit can pull and push the dummy locomotive around 18″ radius curve tracks.  On my layout, I have a tight incline coming out of an 18″ radius curve that challenges the locomotive.  Otherwise, it runs nice and smooth.  I believe this locomotive pair works best on level track with larger than 18″ radius curves.  Take the time to watch the video(s) that I present here.  Even though these are old Rivarossi manufactured locomotives for Con-Cor, the run very well and have little run-time on them given their age.

Make this set part of your model railroad empire by getting your hands on it as soon as possible.  Look at my other listings often because the consignor consigned many Northern Pacific passenger and freight cars as well as other locomotives too.

ShowMyHobby’s Combined Shipping policy:  I combine shipping on multiple items purchased, however, you have to pay upfront for all listings and selling platform generated shipping costs of all items.  It is suggested that you place all the items you want in a cart and buy them from the cart.  I do not send an invoice requesting payment and I cannot estimate your shipping costs because I will only pull and box the items after I receive full payment notification.  Instead of an invoice, you will be refunded any overages you pay that exceed $1.50.

SPECIAL LISTING NOTE:  This item may be listed as part of other listings.  The listing that SELLS FIRST that includes this item will cause the other listings to be invalid as there is only 1 of these items available for sale.  I will modify or remove invalid listings as I become aware that a component item of a listing has been sold.  In the event that 2 or more combined listings sell that comprise components from multiple listings, I will ship the first order and notify buyers of the other listings.  I will either give buyers of the other listings the opportunity to receive what they bought minus items already sold or I will provide a full refund.  If I notify you that a portion of your listing was previously sold, you need to respond as soon as possible within 12 hours of my notification otherwise, I may have to cancel your order and relist the remaining items separately without allowing you the opportunity to acquire what remained after someone else bought a portion of the listing.  Keep in mind that I may put this and other listings in auctions as well.
